Nautical Sports Club of Miño

The Nautical Sports Club of Miño was created at the end of the year 1997 by a group of neighbours who wanted to promote nautical sports and also get the management of the landing stages of the Harbour of Miño.
Some months later it started to develop the different sections that this club has at present (Canoeing, Rowing, Sailing and Windsurfing).
It was in the summer of 1998 when it was celebrated the first dribbling called “Promotion of Canoeing Great Prize”, and since then a dribbling has been organized every year in August, in which Miño is one of the permanent sees for the Federation in this kind of events.
After 1998, 1999 and 2000 in which the board of directors attempts to obtain some fittings and promote the sport sections, in the year 2001 this club begins a new phase because the Town Council hands over the fittings that nowadays we can enjoy.
When the club was already consolidated into the sports area, it began to emphasize other subjects like the mooring lines in the Harbour of Miño. Many negotiations and requests were carried out to the Government of Galicia. And in 2003 it was granted a concession by Portos de Galicia, in three of the four mooring lines that exist in the Harbour of Miño and the fourth one was being managed by Portos for the mooring of boats in the third list.
Nowadays we can say the board of directors with the help of the membership (who are already 300, and there are 600 beneficiaries), the Public Institutions (through subsidies) and some business houses achieved the social objective of this club. And even so, they continue working to improve what was done until now.

ACTIVITIES WE DEVELOP
In the club it is basically developed nautical activities, like Canoeing, Sailing, Windsurfing and Rowing in fixed bench.
Along all year they offer short courses for beginners and people who want to improve their knowledge. The main activity is canoeing, in which they compete in the events the Galician Canoeing Federation and the Spanish Canoeing Federation organize.
Concerning the competitions, on the 7th of August it is celebrated the “Promotion of Canoeing Great Prize” which around 1,000 sportsmen/ sportswomen from 8 to 14 years old will take part in.
In July and August it is organized together with the Town Council the Summer Nautical Schools, in which both residents and tourist can enrol on the sport they like (sailing, canoeing and windsurfing).
The club also has a gym where sportsmen/ sportswomen can practise weight training and they organize keep-fit competitions.
Every year in July (this year from the 17th to the 24th) it is organized a short course in order to obtain the Federation’s authorization for the driving of sports motorboats.
This club also foresees to give an elementary course about first aid and life saving which is preferably suitable for the federated sportsmen/ sportswomen of the club.
Although it has been two years since the last time it was celebrated, this year they are thinking over the organization of the fishing competition from boat, in which everybody will be allowed to enrol.
The club also deals with three of the four existing mooring lines in the Harbour of Miño, so it manages the moorings of the sports boats in the harbour.
