It is a coastal municipality situated at the estuary of Betanzos, in Mariñas Coruñesas, which has had the naming of “ Tourist Municipality” since the year 2000, which was granted by the Culture, Social Communication and Tourism of the Government of Galicia. It borders north on the Municipality of Pontedeume, east on Vilarmaior and south on Paderne and Irixoa. Owing to its privileged situation, Miño is one of the most important summer resorts in the zone of Rías Altas.
Miño extends to 35 square kilometres, which five thousand inhabitants live in distributed among the eight parishes which make it up: Bemantes, Callobre, Carantoña, Leiro, Castro, Miño, Perbes and Vilanova.
The town council has important communication ways, for instance: the national road N- 651 A Coruña-Ferrol, or the section of the A-9 motorway which also joins these two cities and has an exit in Miño, in the Big Beach. All this puts Miño very near important places of the province, in such a way A Coruña and Ferrol are twenty minutes from there, Betanzos, Pontedeume and Sada barely ten minutes and Santiago de Compostela forty-five minutes.
